There are several reader certification targets that you can set for your students. Each one has its own requirements that the students must meet to be certified at that level. Independent Reader is one of the reader certification levels.
Certification targets are different from other Reading Practice targets (such as percentage correct, reading range, and points). Certification targets are not available if you have chosen to use the badge target model for Reading Practice targets; students earn badges in that target model instead of certifications.
Students should achieve this certification only once.
To earn Independent Reader, the student must Independently read at least three books with a 1.2 or higher ATOS book level (or 160L Lexile®* measure), and he or she must accumulate ten points on books at any level by passing Reading Practice Quizzes. Books read To, read With, or read Independently for this level count toward point accumulation.
An Independent Reader certification target must be set for students in order for the software to track the students' progress toward the certification and award it automatically.
You can print customisable award certificates using the Certificates for Student Achievement Report.
