On this page, you can find books and articles to read or search for a book or article so you can take a quiz.
If the software asked you to choose a class when you came to this page, you can use the drop-down list to switch to a different class.
Books and Articles You Can Read Right Now
Accelerated Reader includes articles that you can read on the computer - simply select one of the articles under "Articles you can read now". If you want to see other articles, select See more >.
After you select an article, a window opens. In that window, select Read & Take Quiz to start reading the article.
If you do not see articles you can read now, your school may have turned off articles. Students in years 1 and 2 also might not see articles to read now.
If your school has myON, you will also see myON book ideas. Select a book to see more information about it; you can also select See more > to see more books. The books shown have Accelerated Reader quizzes.
After you select a book, select Read Now if you want to start reading the book in myON.
If you have already read the book and you want to take a quiz, select Take Quiz. Then, when you see the quiz types that are available, choose the type of quiz you want to take.
Discover Books and Discover Articles: Book and Article Ideas
This page also shows you ideas for books and articles you might like to read. You will see top book ideas in your reading range, non-fiction book ideas, award-winning book ideas, and top article ideas (unless your school has turned off articles). Notice your reading range above the Top Book Ideas. This is a range of book levels that is suggested for you. Reading books with these levels can help you become an even better reader.
Your reading range may come from your Star Reading test (your Zone of Proximal Development), or it may have been set by your teacher.
Note to teachers: Some lower-year students may not see article ideas. If students have taken Star Reading tests, only those whose Zone of Proximal Development includes book levels 3.6 or above will see article ideas. If students have not taken Star Reading tests, only students in years 3 and above will see article ideas.
To see more ideas in one of the rows, select See more > after the last book. You will go to a page that has many book ideas. If you want to come back to the first page, select < Back.
To find out more about one of the books or articles, click or tap it.
You can see information about the book or article, including its book level, its points, and its quiz number. You can also read about the book or article. If you are ready to take a quiz on a book, select Take Quiz and then choose the type of quiz you want to take. If your school has myON, you can also choose Read Now for myON books. If you chose an article and you want to read the article and take a quiz, select Read & Take Quiz.
For books, you will also see the interest level. LY means the book is meant for lower years (ages 5-8). MY means the book is meant for middle years (ages 9-13). MY+ means the book is meant for middle years plus upper years (ages 12 and above). UY means the book is meant for upper years (ages 14 and above).
To close the book information, click or tap the X.
Searching for a Book or Article
To start searching for a book or article, click in the blank at the top of the page. Then, enter part of the title or the author's name, or enter the quiz number, and select Search.
You will see a list of books and articles that matched your search.
If you do not find a book or article that you are looking for the first time, try putting quotation marks around the book title that you are searching for. For example, you could type "The Eye Book".
If you find a book that you want to take a quiz for, select Take Quiz. Then, choose the type of quiz that you want to take. All books have Reading Practice Quizzes, and that is the type of quiz you should take first. Some books also have Vocabulary Practice Quizzes and Literacy Skills Quizzes. If you have already taken a Reading Practice Quiz or a Vocabulary Practice Quiz, you will see a green tick and the words "Quiz Complete" for that quiz type, and you cannot choose it again. You can take Literacy Skills Quizzes 3 times; the window will show you how many tries you have left.
To see all of the steps for taking a quiz, click this link to go to "How to Take Accelerated Reader Quizzes."
If your school has myON, and you find a myON book, you can also select Read Now for that book.
If you find an article that you want to read and answer questions about, select Read & Take Quiz. To find out more, read How Students Read Articles and Take Quizzes.
You can sort your search results in a different way to change which books and articles you see first. Use the drop-down list to choose how you want to sort.
Other Ways to Search for Books and Articles
You can find books that have specific interest levels, reading levels, or point values. This can help you find books that will help you meet your reading targets. You can also find books that are fiction or non-fiction and books or articles that you can read now.
To start, select Help me find a book.
If you are looking for a book or article to read right now on your computer or tablet, select one of the options under "Read Now". If your school has myON, you can select myON Books to see a list of books you can read now that matched your search. To find articles that matched your search instead, select Articles; the Articles button is not there if your school has decided to turn off articles.
If you want to find only fiction books (stories that are not real) or only non-fiction books or articles (stories that are real), click one of the options under "Type".
If you want to search for books and articles with certain reading levels, start by clicking Use ATOS or Use Lexile®*.
If you choose ATOS, "All" is selected at first. If you select a specific number, you will see book levels in the range for that number. For example, if you choose 0, the search results will include books that have ATOS levels from 0.0 to 0.9. If you choose 4, the search results will include books from 4.0 to 4.9. If you choose 10+, you will see all books whose levels are 10.0 or higher.
If you choose Lexile®, use the drop-down list to choose which range of levels you would like to find books for. (BR stands for Beginning Reader. When you choose that, you will find books for all levels that start with BR.)
If you want to find books whose quizzes are worth a certain number of points, click the number under "Points".
If you want to search for books and articles that are for students your age, click the years that you are interested in under "Interest Level". You can choose more than one. The names that you see may be different from the example below.
After you choose the options you want, select Search.
If you decide not to use these options, select Go Back to close them.
Suggesting Quizzes
If there is no quiz for a book that you read or want to read, you can ask that a quiz be added on the Suggest AR Quizzes page.
