The Accelerated Reader authorisation password is used in the following circumstances:
- You can require it to be entered by the teacher or teaching assistant before and after quizzes. This is set in the Password Requirement preference.
- The authorisation password is required to stop a student quiz or to delete an unfinished quiz.
- You can allow the authorisation password to be used by the teacher or teaching assistant to
- override book and interest level restrictions (as set in the Authorisation Password Override for Book/Interest Level preference)
- override date and time restrictions set in the Dates and Times for Accelerated Reader preference
- allow students to retake a quiz based on the setting of the Quiz Retake Restrictions preference
The authorisation password is set for each class in the Authorisation Password - Reading Quizzes preference. See the steps below to check or set the password.
Note that you can set the authorisation password for each class. Star tests have a separate authorisation password preference; be sure to use the Authorisation Password - Reading Quizzes preference for Accelerated Reader quizzes.
Who can do this with default permissions?
School Network Level Administrators, School Level Administrators, Teachers
School network level administrators can set the preference for all classes at all schools. School level administrators can set the preference for all classes at their schools. Teachers can set the preference for their classes. Other staff cannot set the preference unless they have been granted special permissions, but they can view the settings.
- At the top of the Home page or Renaissance Next page, select your initials, then Edit Preferences.
- Select Authorisation Password - Reading Quizzes under the Class Preferences on the Preferences page.
- To choose the school, use the first drop-down list.
- To choose the classes that you want to set the preference for, select the second drop-down list and tick the classes. You can also click Select All to select all classes in the list.
- Your classes are listed, and you can see the current authorisation password for reading quizzes for each class. For each class, enter the authorisation password that you want to use. Note: Authorisation passwords are case-sensitive, so be sure to use the same capitalisation that you expect your teachers to use (for example, AuthorisationPW is different from authorisationpw).
If you want to use the same setting for all of the selected classes, select Set All above the table.
In the popup window, enter the password that you want to use; then, select Apply to All. (You still need to save your changes.)
- Select Save Changes to save your settings. (Select < Back to go back to the Preferences page.)
